The hard drive works without any problems on a Windows XP SP2 and Windows 7 machine. I understand that you used windows XP Pro. I've not changes SFCFILES.DLL at all, it's still happily sitting in the i386 folder.. Halfway through, my system crashed. I followed your directions and was able to run sfc /scannow for the first time. I just renamed it back to .DLL and voila, problem is gone.
